According to a press release from the Regional Police Command, a mob of approximately thirty youth attacked officers who were conducting routine enquiries in the area. The attackers dispossessed the officers of their four service weapons and inflicted various injuries on them.

Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Francis Yiribaare, immediately led a reinforcement team to the community. The team successfully rescued and evacuated the injured officers for medical attention and retrieved all four service weapons. Efforts are currently underway to recover two remaining magazines.

Three officers sustained injuries during the attack. Two of the officers were treated and discharged, while a third officer, who suffered a fractured arm, has been referred to the Wa Regional Hospital for further medical attention.

The Regional Police Command strongly condemned the “heinous attack” and assured the public that decisive measures are being taken to ensure the safety of both officers and law-abiding residents. The Command urged residents of Saawie and neighboring communities to cooperate with investigators to assist in the arrest of remaining key suspects and the recovery of outstanding items.
